August 31st, 2025!

On August 31, 2025, the vibrant city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, played host to the 5th Annual Blake Family Block Party, a celebration that truly encapsulated the spirit of community. This lively event was a testament to unity, love, liberation, and the pursuit of freedom for everyone. Attendees were treated to an array of activities, including live music, horseback riding, and delicious ice cream, alongside a variety of games and contests. Families enjoyed the generosity of the event, which offered free backpacks, clothing, food, and groceries, ensuring that all participants left with not just memories, but tangible support as well. The atmosphere was filled with joy and camaraderie, making it a truly family-friendly occasion that welcomed all.

For the second consecutive year, Mukwa stepped up to provide both funding and fun, demonstrating their commitment to the community. Members from both Bear Dens traveled to Wisconsin to rally behind Roots Mutual Aid Organizer Justin Blake, who has been tirelessly working to transform a community affected by state violence into one characterized by unity and joyful resistance. Their presence not only amplified the event's energy but also highlighted the importance of solidarity in the face of adversity. The collaboration between Mukwa and local organizers showcased the power of collective action and the impact it can have on fostering a supportive environment.

Following the event, the organizing group convened for a debriefing session, during which Mukwa's Chairwoman reached a verbal agreement to establish a sustainable fundraising mechanism for the next year's block party. This initiative will be formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Mukwa and Justin Blake, ensuring a continued partnership aimed at enhancing community support.
